Outcome

One qualified log source conforms to the target standard and passes the recorded ingestion, mapping, parsing, quality and usability tests.

Overview

One available log source is inconsistent and needs to conform to an agreed field, parsing and data-quality standard. This deliverable establishes clean mapping, bounded ingest-pipeline transformations and field standardisation so telemetry is dependable across search, dashboards and alerting.

Service request options

Option Credits Scope & objective Boundary
Simple 1,500 One ready conventional source, stable format, existing supported ingestion path and straightforward field mapping or normalisation with no non-trivial parsing, transformation or enrichment.
Standard 3,000 One conventional supported source with an agreed target schema, bounded parsing and limited normalisation.
Complex 6,000 One variable or nested source with non-trivial parsing, bounded transformation or approved enrichment. Requires Delivery approval.
Standard 9,000 Up to two coordinated environments (such as Staging and Production) or environments with material supported integrations. Requires Delivery approval.

Scope

  • Map source fields to the target schema standard (such as Elastic Common Schema).
  • Implement bounded parsing and ingest-pipeline transformations.
  • Apply approved normalisation or enrichment lookups within the selected variant.
  • Execute ingestion and data-quality validation tests.
  • Perform usability verification queries and complete handover documentation.

Customer responsibilities

  • Designate an authorised source owner to confirm data structures and meanings.
  • Provide representative log samples covering typical and edge-case formats.
  • Grant required administrative access to cluster pipelines and templates.
  • Decide on and approve target schema definitions.
  • Supply source documentation and participate in test verification and sign-off.

Prerequisites and assumptions

The log source, owner, representative samples, target standard and intended use must be known prior to activation. Simple requires a stable conventional source and an existing supported ingestion path. Standard allows bounded parsing and normalisation. Complex requires Delivery approval.

Out of scope

  • Standardising multiple distinct log sources in one request.
  • Modifying source application code or upstream logging formats.
  • Upstream infrastructure remediation or network route engineering.
  • Custom connector or bespoke Beats/agent development.
  • Wholesale cluster architecture redesigns or broad historical reprocessing.
  • Continuous operational data-quality management.

Delivery approach

  • 1. Qualify: Review log samples, confirm the ingestion path and select the variant ladder.
  • 2. Baseline: Inspect incoming raw log events and record initial schema discrepancies.
  • 3. Map: Define field mappings matching the target schema standard.
  • 4. Implement: Build ingest pipeline processors for parsing, conversion and normalisation.
  • 5. Test: Validate pipeline execution against representative sample events.
  • 6. Verify: Confirm search usability, field indexing and error-free ingestion.

Completion and evidence

Required fields and mappings conform, parsing and quality tests pass and the data supports the stated use. Evidence delivered at sign-off includes:

  • Representative test data run records.
  • Exported ingest pipeline version and mapping templates.
  • Parsing and schema conformance verification logs.
  • Usability query results demonstrating searchability.
  • Documented exceptions (if any) and formal customer acceptance.

Delivery credits

This deliverable is available only to customers with Elastic Specialist Advisory. Once the Service Advisor and, where required, Delivery have qualified the Service Request, the applicable credits are allocated from the customer's available credit pool. Delivery credits represent the defined result, not consulting hours.

If the scope changes

If qualification or delivery identifies a material condition outside the approved boundary (such as unannounced schema variations, corrupted raw logs or upstream format instability), Observata pauses the affected work. The Service Advisor and Delivery then requalify the request to another option, another deliverable or a larger governed engagement before additional scope is performed or additional credits are consumed.

How to use this deliverable

  • 1. Identify the inconsistent log source with your advisor during a bi-weekly working session.
  • 2. Your Service Advisor checks log samples and selects Simple, Standard or Complex.
  • 3. The Service Request is activated, locking the credit value and parsing boundary.
  • 4. Delivery configures the pipeline, runs test events and provides verification evidence for sign-off.
