Outcome

One named detection produces the expected alert from the approved test and the recorded response or notification path is demonstrated.

Overview

Ready security data needs one approved Elastic detection and a defined response path. This deliverable implements focused threat-detection logic—leveraging prebuilt Elastic rules, custom queries or machine learning detectors—and tests the rule safely in your environment to ensure notifications trigger reliably with clear operational ownership.

Service request options

Option Credits Scope & objective Boundary
Detection rule 3,000 One qualified rule using ready data, one safe simulation test and a documented manual response owner.
Standard 6,000 One defined detection use case with ready data, defined tuning and a documented manual response path.
Integrated 9,000 One rule with approved threat intelligence enrichment, Kibana Case creation, external notification or defined response integration (such as ServiceNow or Jira). Requires Delivery approval.

Scope

  • Configure one approved detection rule within Elastic Security.
  • Set up rule scheduling, query intervals, risk scores and severity classifications.
  • Implement defined enrichment, case creation or notification connectors for the selected variant.
  • Conduct a peer review of detection logic and execute an approved safe simulation test.
  • Validate alert generation and demonstrate the end-to-end response or notification path.
  • Document operational triage steps and complete formal handover.

Customer responsibilities

  • Maintain complete ownership of security policies, risk decisions and operational triage.
  • Designate security authority and data owners to approve the threat scenario and detection logic.
  • Ensure underlying security event logs (such as authentication, network or endpoint data) are ingested, normalised and trusted.
  • Authorise and supervise the execution of safe simulation tests within the target environment.
  • Designate operational responders and participate in alert verification and sign-off.

Prerequisites and assumptions

The threat scenario, underlying security data, change authority and response owner must be approved, and the verification test must be safe for execution before activation. Delivery approval and named customer security authority are required.

Out of scope

  • Enterprise Security Operations Centre (SOC) organisational design or target operating model consulting.
  • Managed detection and response (MDR) services, continuous alert monitoring or 24/7 triage.
  • Broad detection library deployment or wholesale rule migrations across multiple platforms.
  • Endpoint security agent rollout, host containment or remediation engineering.
  • Live incident handling, threat-hunting campaigns or active breach response.
  • Legal or operational liability for customer security response decisions.

Delivery approach

  • 1. Qualify threat scenario and authority: Confirm the specific threat pattern, source data, risk level and named security authority.
  • 2. Configure: Define detection logic, schedule intervals, alert conditions and severity tags.
  • 3. Peer review: Review rule syntax, exception criteria and potential false-positive impact.
  • 4. Safe test: Trigger an approved, controlled test event or simulated activity to test detection logic.
  • 5. Verify response path: Confirm alert firing, payload contents, enrichment lookups and notification delivery.
  • 6. Complete: Export rule definitions, document operational triage guidance and close handover.

Completion and evidence

The approved test triggers the expected detection and the response path is recorded and accepted. Evidence delivered at sign-off includes:

  • Configured detection rule definition export (JSON).
  • Safe test execution record and simulated trigger logs.
  • Alert notification evidence demonstrating accurate payload fields.
  • Case creation, enrichment or integration records where applicable.
  • Documented exceptions (if any) and formal customer security-owner acceptance.

Delivery credits

This deliverable is available only to customers with Elastic Specialist Advisory. Once the Service Advisor and, where required, Delivery have qualified the Service Request, the applicable credits are allocated from the customer's available credit pool. Delivery credits represent the defined result, not consulting hours.

If the scope changes

If testing indicates that necessary log fields are missing from ingestion, log volume leads to uncontrollable false positives requiring extensive upstream parsing, or requirements expand into broad SOC workflows, Observata pauses the affected work. The Service Advisor and Delivery then requalify the request to another option, another deliverable or a larger governed engagement before additional scope is performed or additional credits are consumed.

How to use this deliverable

  • 1. Identify the priority threat scenario or compliance detection requirement with your advisor.
  • 2. Your Service Advisor verifies data readiness, safety criteria and the applicable variant ladder.
  • 3. The Service Request is activated, locking the detection boundary and credits upfront.
  • 4. Delivery configures the rule, executes a safe simulation, verifies the alert route and hands over triage evidence.
