Outcome

One application service emits the agreed APM telemetry and the recorded traces, service metrics and error views are visible and verified.

Overview

One application service lacks verified Elastic APM visibility. This deliverable guides instrumentation, sets up intake configurations and verifies that application transactions, external HTTP/database dependencies and error stack traces populate reliably inside Kibana.

Service request options

Option Credits Scope & objective Boundary
Starter 3,000 One supported service, standard agent, direct conventional deployment and basic verification with no application redesign or complex authentication.
Standard 6,000 Supported agent, conventional deployment and limited configuration (such as custom service environments or basic transaction sampling) for one service.
Complex 9,000 One service with defined advanced deployment, authentication, routing, agent configuration or integration dependencies. Requires Delivery approval.

Scope

  • Assist with agent or OpenTelemetry SDK configuration for the designated runtime.
  • Configure Elastic APM Server or integration intake settings and security credentials.
  • Establish service environment tagging and transaction naming rules.
  • Verify real-time trace ingestion, transaction duration percentiles and error capture under test load.
  • Confirm service map integration and latency metrics visibility.
  • Provide configuration documentation and operational handover notes.

Customer responsibilities

  • Provide source code repository access and application release deployment authority.
  • Designate application engineering and platform infrastructure owners.
  • Deploy agent configuration or wrapper scripts into the target runtime environment.
  • Generate representative synthetic or manual transaction load for verification.
  • Clear network paths between the application host and Elastic APM intake endpoints.
  • Participate in verification testing and provide formal acceptance sign-off.

Prerequisites and assumptions

Supported runtime and instrumentation framework, a service owner, deployment route, access, test traffic and target Elastic capability must be ready before activation. Complex requires Delivery approval.

Out of scope

  • Modifying underlying application business logic or core source code.
  • Developing custom agents for unsupported, unmanaged or legacy proprietary runtimes.
  • Instrumenting multiple independent services within one Service Request.
  • Broad application performance refactoring or resolving underlying application bugs.
  • Continuous operational application management or 24/7 on-call incident response.

Delivery approach

  • 1. Qualify service: Identify runtime language, deployment model, architecture framework and variant ladder.
  • 2. Configure instrumentation: Prepare agent parameters, sampling rates and connection credentials.
  • 3. Deploy with customer: Guide application owners through agent loading or deployment manifest changes.
  • 4. Generate test traffic: Trigger user workflows or synthetic calls through the instrumented service.
  • 5. Verify telemetry: Validate trace waterfalls, database/HTTP spans and exception reporting in Kibana.
  • 6. Complete: Export agent configuration templates, compile verification evidence and close handover.

Completion and evidence

The named service produces agreed traces, metrics and errors under test traffic and the acceptance views pass. Evidence delivered at sign-off includes:

  • Agent runtime details and configuration parameters.
  • Verification screenshots of transaction waterfall traces and service maps.
  • Ingestion logs demonstrating captured latency percentiles and error events.
  • Documented exceptions (if any) and formal customer acceptance.

Delivery credits

This deliverable is available only to customers with Elastic Specialist Advisory. Once the Service Advisor and, where required, Delivery have qualified the Service Request, the applicable credits are allocated from the customer's available credit pool. Delivery credits represent the defined result, not consulting hours.

If the scope changes

If deployment reveals unannounced multi-service dependencies, unsupported legacy runtimes or blocked network boundaries requiring architecture changes, Observata pauses the affected work. The Service Advisor and Delivery then requalify the request to another option, another deliverable or a larger governed engagement before additional scope is performed or additional credits are consumed.

How to use this deliverable

  • 1. Select the business-critical service lacking performance visibility with your advisor.
  • 2. Your Service Advisor verifies agent compatibility and confirms the variant tier.
  • 3. The Service Request is activated, locking the instrumentation boundary and credit value.
  • 4. Delivery assists with configuration, verifies telemetry under live load and hands over the verified setup.
