Outcome

The approved initial logging foundation is operational, its named sources are ingesting to the agreed standard and its governance controls are recorded.

Overview

The customer needs an initial governed logging capability rather than a single-source change. This deliverable implements an operational baseline across multiple core sources, establishing unified index templates, schema alignment, baseline access permissions and initial lifecycle policies so logging is structured and reliable from day one.

Service request options

Option Credits Scope & objective Boundary
Standard 9,000 Up to three conventional supported sources, one primary environment, one approved field standard, baseline access model and documented operating ownership. Requires Delivery approval.

Scope

  • Configure platform-side index templates, component templates and data streams.
  • Onboard up to three conventional supported log sources into the environment.
  • Establish baseline role-based access control (RBAC) and Kibana spaces for operational teams.
  • Execute ingestion, parsing, search and security verification checks.
  • Document operating ownership and deliver an operational handover pack.

Customer responsibilities

  • Provide designated source owners and cluster platform administrators.
  • Provision target compute, storage infrastructure, network allowances and licences.
  • Supply credentials and administrative access for target sources and Elastic environments.
  • Define and approve retention windows, access boundaries and compliance requirements.
  • Supply representative test data and participate in handover acceptance.
  • Assume operational ownership of the logging foundation post-handover.

Prerequisites and assumptions

Target architecture, source list, field standard, retention rules, licences, infrastructure, owners and operating responsibilities must be approved before activation. Delivery approval is required.

Out of scope

  • Onboarding more than three log sources in this single deliverable.
  • Developing custom connectors or unsupported proprietary agent integrations.
  • Large-scale historical log migrations or bulk backfills.
  • Designing enterprise SOC or NOC operational procedures.
  • Modifying source application source code or logging libraries.
  • Multi-platform architectural rollouts or continuous managed operational services.

Delivery approach

  • 1. Confirm foundation boundary: Validate the three approved sources, target cluster, field standards and retention rules.
  • 2. Configure platform controls: Deploy index templates, component templates and default ILM policies.
  • 3. Onboard approved sources: Connect and configure ingestion for each of the three sources.
  • 4. Standardise: Implement ingest pipelines to map and conform fields to the agreed standard.
  • 5. Verify governance and access: Configure RBAC roles, Kibana spaces and validate security controls.
  • 6. Handover: Conduct operational verification queries, export configuration manifests and close handover.

Completion and evidence

Named sources ingest, standard and access checks pass, retention controls are attached and ownership and operating records are accepted. Evidence delivered at sign-off includes:

  • Architecture overview and source inventory manifest.
  • Field mapping definitions and ingest pipeline configurations.
  • Ingestion and search verification test results for all three sources.
  • Documented RBAC role mappings and active ILM retention policy records.
  • Operating ownership records and formal handover acceptance.

Delivery credits

This deliverable is available only to customers with Elastic Specialist Advisory. Once the Service Advisor and Delivery have qualified the Service Request, the applicable credits are allocated from the customer's available credit pool. Delivery credits represent the defined result, not consulting hours.

If the scope changes

If discovery uncovers unapproved sources, non-standard ingestion dependencies, insufficient cluster capacity or unapproved governance policies, Observata pauses the affected work. The Service Advisor and Delivery then requalify the request to another option, another deliverable or a larger governed engagement before additional scope is performed or additional credits are consumed.

How to use this deliverable

  • 1. Review core logging priorities and select your three initial sources with your advisor.
  • 2. Your Service Advisor verifies infrastructure readiness and obtains Delivery approval.
  • 3. The Service Request is activated, locking the 9,000 credits and technical boundary.
  • 4. Delivery deploys the templates, onboards the sources, applies standards and hands over the governed foundation.
