Outcome

One defined ingestion path meets the recorded availability, loss, delay or error-handling checks within the agreed test period.

Overview

One known ingestion path is not meeting a defined reliability target. This deliverable diagnoses the immediate point of failure - whether caused by pipeline bottlenecks, buffer misconfigurations or unhandled exceptions - and implements verified technical fixes to ensure events arrive dependably under load.

Service request options

Option Credits Scope & objective Boundary
Standard 3,000 One known failure domain and one conventional ingestion path with a bounded correction and agreed reliability test.
Complex 6,000 One defined path with several controlled pipeline components, buffering, transformation or dependencies, with explicit recovery testing. Requires Delivery approval.

Scope

  • Baseline the documented failure condition, event loss or latency metric.
  • Implement approved bounded adjustments to ingest pipelines, Logstash filters or buffer settings.
  • Configure error handling, dead-letter queues (DLQ) or drop-prevention controls where applicable.
  • Execute reliability test runs under representative operational volume.
  • Conduct controlled recovery tests to measure behaviour after simulated disconnections.
  • Document residual risks, configuration adjustments and operational handover evidence.

Customer responsibilities

  • Provide concrete baseline evidence of failure (such as error logs, drop rates or latency metrics).
  • Grant administrative access across all pipeline components in the target path.
  • Coordinate upstream and downstream technical teams for testing.
  • Supply representative test traffic or authorise live traffic testing during agreed windows.
  • Provide change approvals and participate in final reliability validation.

Prerequisites and assumptions

The failure mode, target condition, test window and recovery expectation must already be defined before activation. Standard is limited to one known failure domain and conventional path. Complex requires Delivery approval and explicit administrative control of material dependencies.

Out of scope

  • Resolving issues where upstream data generation ownership is unresolved.
  • Multi-platform architectural redesigns or replacing entire ingestion technologies.
  • Remediating application-side logging bugs or third-party SaaS pipeline faults.
  • Continuous SRE operational management or 24/7 on-call monitoring.
  • Capacity expansion programmes or hardware infrastructure provisioning.
  • Emergency incident response or contractual guarantees of future platform availability.

Delivery approach

  • 1. Qualify failure mode: Review baseline error logs, define the target reliability criteria and select variant.
  • 2. Baseline: Measure pre-fix drop rates, latency metrics, error frequencies and resource limits.
  • 3. Correct: Apply approved pipeline, buffer or configuration adjustments.
  • 4. Reliability test: Run representative traffic through the path to evaluate event processing.
  • 5. Recovery test: Simulate a temporary outage or disconnect to confirm buffer and retry handling.
  • 6. Verify: Confirm the pipeline meets the recorded availability, loss and error criteria.
  • 7. Complete: Export configuration changes, record test metrics and close handover.List item

Completion and evidence

The approved test demonstrates the recorded reliability target, or the agreed safe-stop condition is documented. Evidence delivered at sign-off includes:

  • Baseline failure documentation versus post-fix verification metrics.
  • Approved change set and updated pipeline configuration exports.
  • Test execution run logs demonstrating error-free throughput.
  • Recovery and retry behaviour validation logs.
  • Documented residual operational notes and formal customer acceptance.

Delivery credits

This deliverable is available only to customers with Elastic Specialist Advisory. Once the Service Advisor and, where required, Delivery have qualified the Service Request, the applicable credits are allocated from the customer's available credit pool. Outcome Credits represent the defined result, not consulting hours.

If the scope changes

If diagnostic testing reveals systemic upstream network failures, unmanaged hardware limits or unresolvable multi-tier dependencies, Observata pauses the affected work. The Service Advisor and Delivery then requalify the request to another option, another deliverable or a larger governed engagement before additional scope is performed or additional credits are consumed.

How to use this deliverable

  • 1. Present the unstable ingestion pipeline to your advisor during your working session.
  • 2. Your Service Advisor verifies the failure mode and qualifies the scope as Standard or Complex.
  • 3. The Service Request is activated, locking the reliability target and credit value.
  • 4. Delivery applies the pipeline corrections, runs recovery tests and delivers verified performance logs.
